![]() INTRODUCTION API specifications are generally applied to oil and gas turbomachinery applications rather than large industrial power generation. ![]() Some recommendations for acceptance of manufacturer exceptions to API and the technical/ commercial implications are also provided. ![]() Relevant new sections of the code are discussed in more detail with a special focus on their technical interpretation and relevance for the scope-of-supply comparison, machine testing, and field operation in pipeline service. Some critical differences between the 4th and 5th edition are highlighted and discussed. This paper provides a summary overview of the 5 th edition of American Petroleum Institute (API) Code API 616 and also provides some comparison to the 4 th edition. This year, the 5 th edition was introduced to replace the 4 th edition which had been in place since 1998.
